On Thursday, October 25, 2012, 31-year-old Anthony Antonio Watts, known to family as Buck, was fatally shot around 12:39 p.m. in the 500 block of 36th Street NE near Benning Road in Northeast Washington, D.C. Emergency responders pronounced Watts dead at the scene and the Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation.

Early leads included a description of the shooter as a young Black man and reports of a black four-door Toyota Camry with Pennsylvania plates seen leaving the area. No arrests have been publicly announced and no suspects have been officially named. A street shrine was placed near the site where Watts was killed.
