Has anyone else been puzzled by the initial reports that had Richard Harley West in two places at once? It seems like that could have contributed to some of the delays in solving the case. I wonder how those conflicting reports from Santa Clara County and Merced even happened in the first place. Was it a clerical error or just a case of mistaken identity? It seems like this mix-up could have cost precious time in the search efforts. With the Dodge Stratus being found so far away in San Joaquin County, it makes me think about how important accurate information is, especially in the early stages of a missing persons case. What do you all think?
I'm really intrigued by the conflicting reports about where Richard was last seen. Initially, both Santa Clara County and Merced are mentioned. If he rented a car in Merced after that minor accident, could it be that he was possibly disoriented due to stress or maybe a health issue related to his diabetes? Driving to an unintended location isn't unheard of in such cases. It's also puzzling why a full search wasn't more extensive in the Merced area earlier on, considering that's where the rental transaction happened. With the discovery of the car in San Joaquin County, I wonder what might have led him that far north. Any local folks recall if there were any searches or news about the car or Mr. West back then?
