Hey everyone, I was just looking into the case of the German family that went missing in Death Valley back in 1996, and something caught my attention. It’s about the entry they made in the guest book at that mining camp. The message, “We are going through the pass,” just got me thinking about how risky their choice of route was. Mengel Pass is known for being super tough terrain-wise—even for the most experienced off-roaders. Were they even aware of the challenges they’d face? I can’t help but wonder if they simply underestimated the difficulty of crossing such a harsh landscape. Anyone have thoughts on their decision-making process or if there’s more context we might be missing from that message? What could’ve prompted them to take such a dangerous path?
