I came across some information about Carmen Maria Burhans Garcia's disappearance that got me thinking about their car being found under five feet of snow in the San Gabriel Mountains. Did anyone else wonder why there was no blood or evidence of foul play in the car? The roof was crushed, which suggests a pretty severe impact or something heavy falling on it. I find it strange that there were no signs of the family inside the car, especially considering how snow could potentially preserve some evidence. It almost makes me think the car was a decoy, to throw investigators off their trail. The fact that the road had been closed since March 16—just a day after their last sighting—means right away nobody would've discovered it or suspected foul play. Does anyone know how thorough the investigation around the car was, beyond it just being found in the gorge? It just seems like a crucial piece of the puzzle that's somehow disconnected from the rest of the story. Any thoughts?
Has anyone else looked into weather conditions on March 15, 1982, when Carmen and her family went missing? I checked old weather reports, and there was a big storm in the area right around that time. Could this explain the snow covering the car and make an accident more plausible? If the car was pushed into the gorge by severe weather, that might explain the lack of immediate findings by search teams. It's sad to think the worst-case scenarios, but I'm wondering if any subsequent storms could've caused more damage or done something to obscure evidence. Anyone else think this could have impacted the investigation? It feels like there are so many factors at play here.
