I've been looking into the case of David S. Hanstad, and one thing that's been bugging me is the whole financial aspect. Banks have such stringent protocols about reaching out to customers. The fact that the family only received a letter about his account inactivity in April 2025, almost three years after he went missing, seems odd to me. I wonder if the bank had been trying to contact him all this time or if their first attempt was really in 2025. This could shed some light on whether David had been accessing his account at all during those missing years. Has anyone come across situations like this in other cases? Maybe retirees or people living off the grid that eventually cut out the 'financial middleman'? Curious if anyone has insights into how often missing person cases involve long periods with zero financial activity.

Hi KG, I’m David’s daughter. I received the letter at my address in April of 2025. The letter stated that they had tried contacting him numerous times, but the account had no positive or negative transactions for a full 2 years and was ultimately considered dormant and for that reason, they were closing the account.

Has anyone looked into the letter from the bank that the family received back in April 2025? That seems like a pretty significant clue. I mean, it took them a few years to realize his account was inactive, but that could also give us a timeline of when he stopped using any financial services. If David was still around after he was last seen in 2022, we'd probably see some activity there, right? Maybe there are other transactions or locations where his card was used that we don't know about yet. I hope Detective Brieschke is digging into this angle because it could really narrow down where or when he went off the grid. Does anyone know if banks cooperate closely in cases like this with police, especially after they’ve sent such a letter?
