Hey everyone, I came across the case of Alan Visher, the boy who went missing in Kings Canyon back in 1962, and something caught my attention. Given that it was a large group hike organized by the Sierra Club, how common were these kinds of outings at the time? I'm curious if the size and structure of the group could have played a role in how Alan got separated. Were there any protocols for head counts or keeping track of everyone during these hikes? It seems like a lot of kids and a lot of chaos, and maybe that contributed to the confusion when Alan went missing. Thoughts?

I recently came across the case of Alan Visher, who disappeared back in 1962. There’s something that really catches my attention about the location where he was last seen: Dog Creek in Tehipite Valley. I did some digging, and it seems like the terrain around there can be pretty treacherous, especially for a young kid. With so many people in the hiking group, it’s puzzling how he managed to go unnoticed for that long. I wonder if the creek itself could've played a role in his disappearance. Could he have ventured off the trail and gotten into trouble near the water? The creek might’ve been more hazardous back then or had hidden spots that could easily conceal someone. Plus, with the group dynamics and the size of the party, maybe it was easier for him to slip away than we might think. Just curious if anyone with more experience in that area has thoughts on how plausible this theory might be.
