I’ve been following Clarisa Diego Gaspar’s case, and something that really puzzles me is the whole informal adoption situation. How does someone just informally adopt a person without any legal paperwork? It seems like there would have to be some kind of record or someone who knows more about this adult female who apparently took Clarisa in. Has anyone looked into whether this could have been someone she knew before, maybe even a family friend or someone from her community? It seems so risky to have no legal groundwork or oversight in such a matter. If anyone has insights or experience with informal adoptions, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
