I’ve been following the tragic case of little Davena Hinton, and something that really struck me is the role of the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) in all of this. I've read that the medical staff did everything right by reporting those early signs of abuse when Davena first went to the hospital. So, it’s truly perplexing and devastating that DHR didn’t take stronger action to protect her.
It's understandable that mistakes happen, but when it comes to the well-being of a child, I just can't help but wonder if there were signs that were missed or if the system is just that overwhelmed. The lawsuit by her paternal grandmother really highlights how let down Davena was by those who were supposed to safeguard her future.
My heart goes out to Davena's loved ones who are left picking up these shattered pieces and fighting for accountability. Has anyone else been following the developments in the lawsuit? Any insights on how DHR cases are typically handled in Alabama would be appreciated. How often do lawsuits like this see any form of justice served?
