Hi everyone, I've been following the case of Eric Hampton, the hiker who vanished back in January 2025 while on a solo trip through the Appalachian Trail. One angle that piqued my interest is the sightings reported by other hikers around the time he went missing. There were at least three separate reports from the area between January 14th and 17th, each describing a man matching Eric's description acting somewhat disoriented. It's hard not to think he might have gotten off his intended path somehow. Another point worth discussing—Eric was said to be carrying a minimal gear setup for a quick trip. Considering the notorious difficulty of the trail sections he was planning to traverse in winter, I wonder if his equipment (or lack thereof) factored into his sudden disappearance. Love to hear any similar experiences from fellow hikers or anyone who might have been on the trail around that time! —TrailWatcher29
