Does anyone else feel like we've been talking a lot about Gerald Scott’s case but not enough about the impact on his neighborhood? I noticed that the area where he lived had one of the higher crime rates at the time. It's sad to think about how that must have affected his family and neighbors. The fear and anxiety must have been overwhelming. The community deserves to feel safe, and it’s tragic when one life ends while leaving a lingering shadow of fear for those left behind. The work the Houston Police Department is doing is critical, but it must be incredibly challenging considering the increased violence during that period. Let’s not forget that this isn’t just about one case, but how we can support neighborhoods struggling with ongoing crime so that fewer families face similar heartbreak.
