I’ve been researching some of the unsolved cases in San Diego from the early ‘90s, and Robert Schmidt’s story stood out to me. What strikes me is how overwhelmed the police must have been during that time. With violent crime peaking and resources spread thin, it’s daunting to think about how many cases like Robert’s might have slipped through the cracks. It was a rough era, with the surge in meth use adding a dangerous layer to the situation. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for Robert's family, living with unanswered questions for so long. Does anyone know if recent advancements in forensic tech have been applied to this case? I hope they haven’t given up on finding the truth.
Hey everyone,
I've been digging into Robert Schmidt's case from 1992, and I can't help but think about the intense pressure the police must have faced back then. The early '90s were such a chaotic time for San Diego with the surge in violent crime, and methamphetamine was really wreaking havoc on the community. It's easy to see how overwhelmed law enforcement could have been with so many cases on their hands.
In one of my deep dives, I read about how resources were stretched thin and cases sometimes went cold due to sheer volume and complexity. It's tragic to consider that Robert's case might have fallen through the cracks because of this. The investigators probably had their hands tied, dealing with the aftermath of high crime rates and struggling to keep up with the demand for justice.
I'm curious if anyone has insight into any systemic changes in the police department since then, or even how evolving forensic technologies might bring some closure to families waiting for answers. Cases like Robert's remind us of the importance of continuing to support improvements in investigative techniques and community cooperation to help solve these long-standing mysteries. My thoughts are with Robert's loved ones. Here's hoping for breakthroughs in these cold cases.
