Has anyone looked into the possibility that Aughney might have crossed the border into Mexico as he planned? It's been over two decades, and with him leading a transient lifestyle, he could have integrated into a community there, going unnoticed. I wonder if the authorities in Mexico have been notified or if there's been any collaboration with them. With his last known contact being so close to the border, it feels like a crucial angle to explore. Sometimes I think cases like these need a fresh set of eyes to look at the possible international aspects. Hope there's still room in the investigation for considering this possibility.
Has anyone looked into whether Aughney might have tried to cross the border into Mexico on foot? Given that he was living a transient lifestyle, it makes me wonder about potential routes he might have taken. It's possible he avoided major crossings due to lack of documentation. Perhaps there are informal paths or lesser-known entry points near Yuma? Just thinking about the areas between the US and Mexico that aren't heavily guarded where someone trying to keep a low profile might travel. Anyone familiar with the geography down there who might have insights on this?
Does anyone else find it odd that Aughney's decision to head to Mexico never raised more alarms? I get that he had a transient lifestyle, but given the borders and everything, wouldn’t there have been a larger, more coordinated attempt to track his movements? Especially since he contacted his family in Yuma. Just seems like there should have been more of a trail, even from the shelter. Maybe he ran into someone there who convinced him to leave? Curious if anyone knows if the Mexican authorities were ever involved in the investigation. Thoughts?
