Shahid Quayyum Ahzire Davis was 19 when he was shot and killed in Kensington on January 19, 2012. He had been due to finalize his enrollment at La Salle University the next day after taking a year off following high school; family circumstances including an incarcerated older brother and the death of a close friend had delayed his start. That afternoon he visited the mother of his deceased friend and spoke with his own mother; after a warm exchange he and a friend were approached by two men who demanded money. Shahid refused and was shot.

Described by family as bright, compassionate and generous, Shahid enjoyed boxing and dancing, spoke Spanish, and had earned a two-year scholarship to La Salle. He was buried at Merion Memorial Park. A reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the killers, but the murder remains unsolved.
