Anyone have any thoughts on the connections between David Bird Thomson's book *In the Shining Mountains* and his disappearance? I can't help but wonder if there's more to it. It’s almost like he was laying out his own game plan or something, given his fascination with living off the land. There's something haunting about the timing—the book coming out in the same year that he went missing. Makes me think he might've used his own stories as a blueprint to just vanish into the wilderness. Do you think he planned this all along or maybe the themes in his book influenced him more than anyone realized? Curious what others think about how his writing might have played into his sense of reality around that time.
I’ve been following David Bird Thomson’s case, and what really intrigues me is the timing around the publication of his book *In the Shining Mountains*. It came out the same year he vanished, which makes me wonder if the themes in his writing were more than just fiction for him. Could he have been planning this 'disappearance' for a while, using his book almost as a manifesto for a new life he was yearning for? Given his passion for living off the land and his struggles with depression, it's not far-fetched to think the book was a way for him to express his real-life desires. Has anyone else come across any other writings from him that could hint at this desire for solitude, or perhaps even reveal more about his state of mind leading up to his disappearance?
