Has anyone else looked into the forensic evidence issues in Crystal Dittmeyer’s case? I find it really intriguing how bite mark analysis played such a crucial role initially, but then it ended up being the reason Benjamin Crider's conviction was overturned. It's kind of shocking that bite mark evidence can be so controversial and unreliable. I know they've moved away from using it much nowadays, but it's wild how it seemed so definitive at the time.
Given everything that came out about forensic science in the late 90s and early 2000s, I'd love to hear more about any other cases where this kind of evidence was used and later questioned. Also, the fact that Benjamin eventually confessed but Crystal's body was never found adds another layer of mystery. With advancements in technology, do you think there's any hope that new evidence could eventually come to light or that her body might be found? It's haunting to consider how many families might still be facing similar circumstances.
Has anyone else looked into that weird connection between Benjamin Crider and his car around the time Crystal went missing? I’ve always found it odd that he blamed his injuries on car maintenance yet provided no solid proof or details. It’s as though he hoped people wouldn’t ask further about it. I remember reading that investigators found no justifiable reason for the bruises and bite marks he had. It really makes me wonder if there was some evidence he hastily cleaned or disposed of before the police could access it. Even with his later confession, all the secrecy surrounding that car still feels like a piece from a larger puzzle. Just thinking out loud here, but has anyone done a deep dive into the potential timeline of his car's whereabouts that day? Maybe there’s something we might’ve missed.
Has anyone else come across reports about the garment bag angle in Crystal Gayle Dittmeyer's case? I remember reading that investigators suspected Benjamin Crider disposed of her body using one. It makes me wonder if there were any specific searches around potential disposal sites or landfills that would have matched. Also, considering the apartment complex had a pool, part of me has always speculated whether any water searches were conducted either. I haven’t seen much public info about efforts in that area. It's frustrating that with so many clues, such as the blood evidence and Crider’s later confession, they never managed to locate Crystal. It’s deeply unsettling, not just for the lack of closure for her loved ones, but also in terms of understanding the entire picture of what happened that day. Curious to hear if anyone else has insights or has spotted something in older news articles or reports I might have missed!
