I’ve been following the case of Demetrus Maybums, and it's incredibly sad how his life was cut short at such a young age. What’s really haunting is how many families are left without answers, just like his. I keep thinking about his friends and family who surely just want justice and peace. Given that Demetrus was the 54th homicide victim that year, it seems like the authorities might have been overwhelmed. But still, every victim deserves attention. For those more familiar with the Third Street and LaSalle area back then, was there any kind of awareness campaign or community action in response to all this violence? I’m really curious if there was any effort to rally the community and what that looked like. My heart goes out to anyone touched by these acts of violence.
