Hey everyone, I've been following the Michael Gaughan case and recently came across something curious. When Michael's car was found abandoned in the desert, it struck me as odd that it was west of Las Cruces, seemingly far from where they might expect him to be heading back to New Mexico. Was this route part of his normal drive, or did something or someone divert him there? It could be nothing, but it feels like there might be more to this detail. Given the era, I wonder how they pinpointed the location - local police search or maybe someone tipped them off? The desert isn’t exactly forgiving, and it makes you think if someone with bad intentions knew how isolated it was. Anyone else think there might be clues hidden in the location of the car?
Has anyone else noticed how peculiar it is that Michael James Gaughan's car was found just two days after his disappearance? It's always struck me as odd that it was abandoned in the desert west of Las Cruces—feels so isolated and random. Was it a matter of his car breaking down again, or could it have been a deliberate decision by someone else to leave it there to throw off the search? The desert's a vast place, and I've read that vehicles are sometimes left there because they can be difficult to recover. Just wondering if anything about its condition stood out to investigators at the time. I'd love to hear what others think about this aspect of the case!
