Has anyone else noticed how bizarre it is that despite Widman’s confession and guilty plea, Nicole’s body has never been found? I’ve always been curious if they did any thorough searches of the specific area he mentioned. It seems like every time this case gets brought up, there’s a lot of focus on Melody and Widman’s narratives, but not as much on any search efforts. I mean, Pittsburgh has a lot of wooded areas, but you’d think with modern technology like ground-penetrating radar or other forms of forensics, there’d have been some leads or attempts to locate Nicole's remains. It's just odd to me how quickly some narratives get traction while actual fieldwork seems overlooked. Maybe it’s just me, but after all these years, it'd be great to have some closure on what really happened in those woods. Anyone else have thoughts on this part of the case?
Has anyone ever dug into the Giant Eagle supermarket angle more deeply? I've always thought that Melody's story about Nicole being taken from there was incredibly sketchy, especially since no one else saw her there that day. It makes me wonder if the store had any surveillance cameras back in 1982, and if they did, was the footage checked thoroughly? I know it’s a long shot given the time that’s passed, but maybe there are old logs or reports detailing what investigators did regarding that location.
Also, does anyone know if the store still exists at the same place? It seems like a critical early point in the story that might have some answers if only it could be re-examined with today's technology or techniques. Maybe something small was missed, especially since that letter found later just deepens the mystery. It begs the question if there was ever any genuine follow-up on the actual site of the supposed abduction!
