Has anyone else delved into the history of the area around Lock 10 where George Mateo was last seen? I recently took a drive around that part of the Mohawk River, and it got me thinking about how dense and rugged the terrain is. There are so many hiding places if you know the area well. The fact that his car was found on Conrail property across the river makes me wonder if he was trying to communicate or meet up with someone. River currents can be unpredictable, especially near the locks, but the placement of his car feels deliberate rather than accidental. I’m curious if anyone local remembers any rumors or lesser-known details about what was happening in that area around 1989. Every little detail could be significant!

Hi all, I've been doing some digging into George F. Mateo's disappearance and found something puzzling. Has anyone else noticed how odd it is that his car was found on Conrail property, on the opposite side of the Mohawk River from where he was last seen fishing? It's strange to me that there's no clear explanation of how or why his car ended up there. I wonder if there's a possibility that he could have crossed the river somehow or if someone else moved it — maybe trying to cover their tracks? Plus, I've read that the area by Lock 10 where he was fishing can be quite isolated. Could this mean that someone else might have been there without drawing attention? This detail about the location of his car has me thinking there might be more to the story. If anyone has thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them!
