Hi everyone, I’ve been reading through the discussions about the tragic cases from 2008, and I keep coming back to the neighborhood itself. The Excelsior District has changed a lot over the years, but at the time of Jimmy Hau-Gongora's death, it was really suffering from a surge in violence. It makes me wonder about community resources and efforts back then. Was there enough neighborhood support, like after-school programs or community centers, to help keep the youth engaged and safe? I’m curious if the city has since made improvements to make it a safer community. It’s so important to think about these preventative measures in addition to seeking justice for Jimmy and others like him. Hopefully, sharing our insights can help bring peace to the families who still seek answers. Sending my thoughts to Jimmy’s loved ones.
