Hey everyone, I’ve been reading through the threads about Michael Larry Madden’s case and something struck me about his dog, Matilda. It's quite odd how Matilda returned to the campsite on her own but couldn’t lead the searchers back to him. Dogs typically have such a strong sense of direction and an even stronger bond with their owners. It makes me wonder what she experienced during those four days until she was found. Could there have been something or someone that prevented her from finding Michael or retracing her steps? It’s sad that despite her return, there was no additional clue to help solve the case. Has anyone looked into whether Matilda showed signs of encountering wildlife or perhaps another person? Maybe there was more evidence on her that was overlooked? Just some food for thought. What do you all think?
Did anyone else find it odd that Matilda made her way back to the campsite on her own? Four days is a long time for a dog to be out there alone, especially in a forest as vast and unpredictable as the Stanislaus National Forest. It makes me wonder—did something happen nearby that scared Michael or maybe even kept him from returning to camp? I’m curious if the search teams considered tracing Matilda's exact path to or from where she might have come. Dogs tend to have that instinct to return to familiar spots, which could mean Michael was closer than we think at some point. It’s just a thought, but maybe there were clues along her path that went unnoticed at the time? ?
Hey everyone, I was digging into Michael Larry Madden's case from '96, and something about Matilda, his dog, has been on my mind. When she returned to the campsite alone four days after Michael disappeared, she was dehydrated but didn't have any signs of injury or struggle. Dogs have that instinct to find their way back, right? So, did she get lost or was she maybe running away from something that scared her?
It didn't help much in terms of locating Michael, but I'm curious why she only came back after four days and whether anyone's considered what that could imply about where she had been during that time. Was she wandering the forest aimlessly, or could it be possible that she was with Michael for some of those days? Or even being held by someone? If anyone else has thoughts or knows if there's more info on Matilda's return, I'd love to hear it.
