Given the huge populations and transient nature of cities like Chicago and LA, I wonder if someone might remember seeing Yoni back in 2006 or afterwards? With Chicago's many neighborhoods and diverse communities, it seems plausible that Yoni could have blended in or found a place to stay, especially if he was there with someone he knew or met shortly after his disappearance.
