I've been following Walter Earl Culp Jr.'s case for a while, and something has always puzzled me. It's been over a decade, and there's still no trace of him, despite him being a strong swimmer. I recently came across some reports that suggested he might have been struck by lightning. I wonder how likely it is that a lightning strike would leave no trace of him at all? I mean, would that explain why they couldn't find any evidence of him in the river? Seems strange that nothing at all surfaced after such an extensive search. Also, has anyone ever heard any further details about the storm itself? Was it particularly severe beyond producing lightning? Just curious if anyone has come across more info or theories about what might have happened.

Has anyone else been following the case of Walter Earl Culp Jr.? I’m really curious about the details of the storm that day. From what I've read, it came on very suddenly. I know weather on the river can be unpredictable, but does anyone have insights into how typical it is for storms to develop so quickly in that area? It seems strange how there wasn't a warning or any chance for them to get to safety. I also wonder how well the Alweld Utility boat would handle in those conditions. It seems odd that Culp's boss made it out okay but Culp didn’t, especially since he was said to be a strong swimmer. I hope we eventually find out more about what truly happened.
