On a summer evening in July of 2009, 32-year-old Walter E. Culp, Jr., known to his loved ones as Junior, was enjoying a boat outing with a friend on the Mississippi River, near Crystal City, Missouri. The day took a harrowing turn when the boat's outboard motor malfunctioned, forcing them to rely on a much slower trolling motor to make their way back to shore.
