Has anyone looked into the possibility that Bettye Whitaker (or Lana Lee) might have had a closer connection to one of the hospital staff than initially thought? The fact that she left against medical advice strikes me as odd. It's like someone knew the setup well enough to slip out. Maybe a staffer who was sympathetic (or had other reasons to help her leave) could provide a clue for investigators. Also, with no family or personal records available, maybe the hospital workers at the time hold more key information about who she was.
Call me a skeptic, but the lack of personal history on her seems unusual. That, combined with the lack of vehicle findings, makes me think someone knew what they were doing when they assisted her departure—or maybe even discouraged her from being documented in the first place. Just my two cents!

In most missing person cases, especially ones from the '80s, you'd at least find some distant relative or someone who could provide a bit of background or even DNA. The fact they couldn't locate any family makes me wonder if there’s more to this story. Maybe she was estranged, or perhaps she was using "Lana Lee" as a way to detach from her past? Without photographs or dental records, it seems like authorities hit a dead end pretty quickly.
