Hey everyone, I came across an old missing persons case that I can't stop thinking about, and I wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts or additional info. It's about Dorothy "Dorthy" Bell Stewart Cummings, who went missing back in '95 from St. Augustine, Florida. She was living in the Coral Landing Assisted Living Center at the time.
What really puzzles me about Dorothy's case is her disappearance during the day. It happened after breakfast, which seems like a time when there would've been people around who could've noticed something. Did anyone else at the center see her leave? It strikes me as odd that there aren't any reports from other residents or staff. Plus, St. Augustine is such a community-oriented place. I'd expect that someone, somewhere could've spotted an elderly lady walking around.
Considering the advances in technology and social media since then, wouldn't it be great if we could harness local memories or archival news footage to find some kind of clue? Even after so many years, I feel like someone might remember something if reminded.
If anyone knows more or has thoughts on how cases like these might be revisited, I'd love to hear it.
Does anyone else find it odd that no one at Coral Landing saw Dorothy leave, especially considering it was a busy time of the morning? It's been bugging me that with staff and other residents around, she managed to walk out without anyone seeming to notice which direction she went. I get that it was 1995, so security might not have been as tight as today, but still, it’s weird that not one person reported seeing where she might’ve headed. Makes you wonder if she left on her own or if there's more to the story. If anyone has insight on the protocols at assisted living centers from that time or knows how these facilities generally operated, it'd be interesting to hear your thoughts.
Hey everyone, I've been researching the disappearance of Dorothy "Dorthy" Bell Stewart Cummings, and something that's been sticking out to me is the whole situation with Coral Landing Assisted Living Center. Does anyone else find it odd that there wasn't more immediate action taken when she left that morning? I understand places like that have reasonable freedom for their residents, but one would think there'd be extra measures considering her age and health. Was there any history of residents walking away like this before, or was Dorothy's case unique in this sense? It just seems like there should have been more structure in place to prevent this kind of situation. If anyone has insight or similar experiences with assisted living facilities, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
