Hey everyone, I’ve been going over the Berumen case, and something that's been bugging me is the handling of his car after the events unfolded. Skaggs was found guilty of stealing the car, but isn’t it kind of odd how that all played out? I mean, Berumen’s Volkswagen was abandoned right at the nightclub. Why would Skaggs take it just to leave it there? Did he panic, or was leaving it part of a bigger plan to cover tracks? Considering the police found the car right away – which I assume would have had to undergo some forensic examination – it’s puzzling how it doesn’t seem to have contributed more to the case. Also, did anyone else ever hear anything about what might have been found in the car itself? Seems like there’s more to this part of the story than we’ve heard so far. Thoughts?
Anyone else find it strange that Berumen's car was left at the nightclub even though police think he was killed at an apartment on East Devonshire? If the crime happened there, why didn't anyone move the car to the apartment to make it look more like he went missing from there instead? On one hand, leaving his car at Amazons could have been a tactic to throw off investigators, but on the other hand, it almost feels like they didn't care if it seemed suspicious. I wonder if they assumed no one would connect the dots or if it was just a convenient spot to ditch it. Also, the fact that his credit card was found used makes me think the thieves might have been more interested in making a quick buck than covering their tracks. Thoughts?
Has anyone else noticed the details about the bathtub being replaced due to gunshot damage? Seems like a pretty strong indication that something major went down in that apartment on Devonshire Avenue. Why would you need to replace a whole bathtub unless there was a significant amount of violence? I wonder if there were any signs of struggle elsewhere in the apartment as well. Also, does anyone know if the police investigated the landfill where Berumen's remains might have been taken? Feels like more could have been done to find him.
