I've been following the Deon Johnson case and can't stop thinking about how terrifying it must have been for the families and children at the YMCA that day. It's chilling to think you'd be somewhere as safe as your local Y, and then to have something so tragic happen right outside. My heart goes out to Deon's family and everyone who was affected by the chaos that afternoon. It makes me wonder if the suspects and Deon knew each other, and what could have been so intense to lead to something so drastic. I hope with the witness descriptions of the vehicle, the authorities can piece together the puzzle and bring justice for Deon and peace for his loved ones. If anyone's heard updates from the community or the police, please share. Every bit of information could be crucial.
I find myself thinking a lot about the initial chaos and fear in the YMCA when this tragic incident unfolded. I can't imagine being a parent there, picking up your child after school activities, only to be suddenly thrust into a situation where their safety is uncertain. Major kudos to the staff for their quick thinking and immediate response to ensure everyone's safety inside.
It's horrifying to think that such violence spilled over into a space meant for community and togetherness. Those children and parents have likely been left with lasting trauma from witnessing or hearing about the violence that day.
