I just found this site while checking for any new updates or news on Ernesto's case. Rather than answer the previous post individually, I thought I'd share a little on Ernesto.

Ernesto didn't smoke in the house on Oakley. He had family living there with small children, so smoking outside wasn't anything out of the ordinary. That evening, from what his brothers shared, he went to dinner with everyone and after being back home settled in the house he needed to go out to his vehicle and then smoke. He was smoking in the back of the house at the garage and this is where he was found.

Back in 2018 just a few days after this happened, I spoke to a neighbor who lived behind the house. While they didn't see anything occur, they heard sounds that they dismissed as fireworks. Our area will set off fire works a week before and the week after the 4th of July. No one that was spoken to had cameras in the area. This is also possibly due to not being able to release certain details due to it being an open case. As far as I was made aware by the police department, no real details were shared outside of someone had reported seeing someone running down the alley. However, no real description was given and that went no where.

We haven't heard anything from the detectives since the end of 2018. No new information has come out. We've left a few messages for detectives over the years, no responses.

Who was Ernesto? There's not enough words to explain that. He was an amazing man, extremely kind and generous, hard working and loved soccer. Ernesto came to the US from Guatemala as a teenager. Lived some time in California working, then moved to Ohio with his brothers. Worked hard every single day of his life. Eventually opened his own business and employed others.

He was laid to rest in his home time near family in Guatemala.

Hola a todos,
I’ve been following Ernesto Merida Argueta’s case closely and I can't shake this thought: Who was Ernesto to the people who loved him? From what I've gathered, he uprooted his life and came from Guatemala to Columbus. It looks like he was trying to build a new life here. I'm imagining the courage it must have taken to leave everything he knew behind. It breaks my heart to think of his family and friends who have had to get this news and can't find closure because the case is still unsolved.
Does anyone know if some kind of memorial or vigil was set up at the spot where it happened, or maybe back in his hometown in Guatemala? I feel like honoring his life and dreams could keep the pressure on the community and authorities to solve this. If anyone has attended one or knows something, I’d love to hear about it. Maybe we can spread more awareness about who Ernesto was, beyond just the tragedy, because he deserves that.
Justice for Ernesto ❤️
Stay safe everyone, and please reach out if you know anything that might help.
So, I've been reading up on the case of Ernesto Merida Argueta, and something that stands out to me is the time of the incident. Isn't it odd how frequently these types of violent crimes happen under the cover of night? It makes me wonder if the timing was purely coincidental or if there's something more premeditated about it. Did Ernesto have any particular reason to be at the back of the house at that hour? It's chilling to think how a community spot can turn into a crime scene in mere moments.
I can only imagine what his family and friends must be going through, waiting for answers and justice. They deserve to know who took Ernesto from them and why. If anyone out there knows anything, please consider coming forward. It's these small pieces of the puzzle that can help bring closure to those who loved him. Maybe one day, they'll get the justice they deserve.
Has anyone heard any updates on witnesses or potential security camera footage from the area where Ernesto Merida Argueta was killed? ? I feel like this case must have had some kind of video evidence given the location on South Oakley Avenue. Even the smallest detail might help jog someone’s memory or offer a new lead. Sharing your voice can make a big difference, especially when it feels like authorities have hit a wall. Keeping Ernesto’s family in the forefront, they deserve answers and closure. If there's any news or insight someone comes across, please share. ? Any effort to keep this in the public eye is so important. It’s a painful reminder of how these cases need the community’s involvement to possibly bring about justice. ? Let's keep Ernesto's story alive.
