I keep thinking about the trauma Jerrod’s friends and family must be enduring. It's so gut-wrenching to imagine not only losing a loved one in such a violent way but also knowing his death is part of a larger epidemic of gun violence that rocked Oakland. The fact that Jerrod and 89 others lost their lives to homicide in 2010 alone just highlights this deeply rooted issue. I’ve read that it’s been tough for families to trust the police, especially with such low clearance rates on these cases. It must be incredibly frustrating for Jerrod’s family, knowing that justice can be so hard to achieve in a system plagued by lack of resources and community mistrust. Sending love to everyone affected and hoping for a change in how these cases are handled.
