I've been following the tragic events surrounding the string of Manhattan stabbings in December 1980, and I'm particularly struck by the case of Antone Davis. It's incredibly frustrating to learn that despite being a victim of Joseph Christopher's vicious spree, his murder was not part of the specific charges that ended with Christopher's conviction.
I can't imagine the pain and frustration Davis's family must have felt, knowing their loved one was the victim of such a senseless act of violence but didn't see justice served in the courtroom. While justice for the others might bring some solace, it’s vital we remember every victim by name, acknowledging the individual lives lost that day. We talk a lot about the "Midtown Slasher," but we should also remember Antone for the person he was, not just as a victim associated with a notorious killer. It's gut-wrenching to think he couldn't be mourned separately in the eyes of the law, even though he's very much a part of this tragic narrative.
Does anyone have more personal information or memories about Antone that could help paint a fuller picture of who he was? It's important we remember the people, not just the crime.
