I've been thinking a lot about the role informants play in cases like Gregory "Wildman" Hill's. It's such a dangerous line of work, especially when you're dealing with organized crime. I can't imagine the courage it takes to stand up against these groups, knowing they could retaliate at any moment. Hill was reportedly going to testify against a local criminal group, which is incredibly brave. It's tragic that his efforts to help bring justice to his community ended in such a violent way. From what I’ve gathered, informants often don't get enough protection for the risks they take, and Greg's case seems to highlight the grave consequences of this oversight. I wonder if there were more measures in place back then, maybe things could have ended differently for him. My heart truly goes out to Greg’s family and friends; knowing he was trying to make things right must be a small comfort, but the loss is immeasurable. Does anyone have more insight into how informant safety is managed these days? Have there been improvements since the 80s?
