I was reading through some old articles on the tragic case of Duane Eugene Owen and found myself wondering about the community's response back in 1947. It seems like everyone just accepted the initial explanation of an accidental drowning, but I can’t shake the idea that something about this incident might have felt "off" to some, even then. It's a small town, and usually, folks are observant enough to notice when things don’t add up. Thinking about the friends and family—how hard it must’ve been to hold onto the idea of an accident for all those years. Did anyone suspect? Or did they all try to convince themselves for the sake of closure? It’s haunting to think of a child being capable of such calculated actions. The weight of unanswered questions must have left a lasting scar on the community. I truly feel for the Owen family and can't imagine how they dealt with learning the truth decades later. If anyone happened to run into anything about how the local media covered Duane's story back then, I’d be interested to see how detailed the reports were. Maybe someone has access to newspaper archives better than I do?
