I've been following the tragic events surrounding the murders in Milwaukee on August 8, 2026, and my heart goes out to Shamarla "Asir" Hare's family and loved ones. It's deeply troubling to think about the ripple effect of such violence on a community and how it alters lives forever. One aspect of this case that I find particularly disturbing is the role of the individuals who allegedly aided Thomas Seville Zollicoffer after the shootings. Knowing that people would actively help someone accused of such horrific crimes is hard to wrap my head around. It raises questions about their motivations and how they justified their actions to themselves. Elena Cole and Sengchanh Phengphonsavanh, charged with harboring or aiding a felon, must now face the consequences of their alleged decisions. While some might argue that familial and personal ties can complicate decisions in high-pressure situations, it’s vital to remember that there were innocent lives lost. Hare, along with Vanessa DeHerrera and Scott Bucholz, deserved protection and justice, not complicity in the aftermath. I hope this case brings some clarity and justice, not only for the victims but as a reminder of the broader impacts of violence and the responsibilities we all have when faced with wrongdoing. Sending love and strength to all the families affected.
