I'm still struggling to wrap my head around the senseless loss of Jessie Sumlar. I can only imagine how devastating this has been for his family and friends. I’ve been thinking about how brave Jessie's mother was to trust her instincts and push for a welfare check when she couldn't reach him. It's those gut feelings that sometimes drive us to discover harsh realities, but they also help bring justice. Her quick action really allowed the authorities to get to work. Also, the amazing work of the detectives to quickly piece together evidence against Lewis can't be overlooked. There’s some solace in knowing that justice was served, but the LGBTQ+ community and all who knew Jessie will surely feel this loss for a long time. What a tragic end for someone who had his whole life ahead of him.
