I've been following Terrill Coltrane Gilmore's case and something that really struck me is how this tragic event unfolded with children present. I can’t even begin to imagine the trauma faced by those kids, especially Terrill's 14-year-old son who witnessed the shooting. These young lives are forever impacted by a moment of violence between family members over money. It's just so sad to see the ripple effect on the youth who are pulled into these horrific events, knowingly or unknowingly. The fact that James Lewis's kids were at the scene too—or that he was even holding his 3-year-old while being arrested—sends shivers down my spine. How could he expose them to such a thing? I really hope there are resources being made available for all the children to cope with this tragedy. As much as the focus is on getting justice for Terrill, I can't help but also worry about how these kids will heal and grow from this, and what kind of support they'll receive moving forward.
