I've been following the tragic case of Desi Leigh Ortiz from Pueblo, and my heart is with his family and friends during this unimaginable time. I wanted to talk a bit about the role of the ShotSpotter system in cases like these. From what I read, it detected the gunfire almost immediately, which I guess is both incredible and terrifying. It makes me wonder if these kinds of technologies are becoming more vital in solving crimes quickly or if they're more of a reactive than proactive tool.
In situations like these, every second seems crucial, and the fact that emergency services could be alerted so quickly might have provided a glimpse of hope, however short-lived. I can't imagine the panic and urgency the driver must have felt to get Desi to safety. Can anyone share more about how ShotSpotter works or if it's been equally effective in other cases? It seems like such a high-tech tool, and I'd love to understand more about its impact on helping communities be safer.
