I’ve been following the case of Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and the tragedy that unfolded at the Westminster Apartments in Amarillo. My heart goes out to his family and friends who are dealing with such an unthinkable loss. The thing that's been sticking with me is the sheer randomness of the violence. It’s terrifying to think how a joyful gathering can so quickly turn into a scene of chaos and sorrow. The recovery of the AR-style rifles and the arrests are steps towards justice, but I can’t help but think about the impact this has on the community, especially the young people who were there that night. I can only imagine how this will affect their feelings of safety at social events going forward. It's just so deeply sad to see lives cut short and so many others changed forever. My thoughts are with everyone who is navigating through the pain of this senseless act.
