I've been thinking a lot about the impact community relations have on cases like Harris Walter's tragic death in Oakland. It's disheartening to see how much fear can prevent potential witnesses from coming forward. It’s understandable given the environment, but it also hinders the potential for justice and resolution for the victim's family. Did anyone else notice how the public's trust in the police really seems to nosedive in areas with high crime rates like East Oakland? It’s like a vicious cycle, where fear leads to silence, and silence leads to unsolved cases. I wonder what it would take to rebuild that trust so that people feel safer coming forward. Maybe more outreach programs or greater community-police collaboration could be the answer. Sending love to Harris's family, hoping one day there will be answers.
