I'm struggling to wrap my head around the senselessness of it all. Kayla was just a teenager with her whole life ahead of her, and to know that people she likely knew could do something so horrendous is just gut-wrenching. I found it particularly disturbing that a part of this unfolded in such a secluded area like the Rudolf Bennitt Conservation Area. That place was always considered serene and safe—a spot where families would go hiking or have picnics. It makes me wonder just how well we know any place or person. It's unsettling to think that those involved could have hidden something so dark within themselves, or that the very places we deem safe can harbor such tragedy. To the Huff family, my deepest sympathies go out to you. I can't imagine the pain you're enduring, but know that a community stands with you, hoping for justice and some form of closure. We need to hold on to Kayla's memory and let the love she brought into this world overshadow the darkness of what happened.
