I've been following this tragic case closely and can't help but think about the incredible bravery of Nadir Awad, who, like Mansour Kaziha, made the ultimate sacrifice. It’s difficult to comprehend the level of courage it must have taken for them to confront the attackers and focus on distracting them to protect everyone inside, especially knowing the potential cost. I can't stop thinking about the courage it takes to put yourself directly in harm's way for the sake of others. Nadir's actions in the parking lot were selfless and speak volumes about the kind of person he must have been. These acts of heroism from Kaziha and Awad provided crucial minutes for many to lock down or escape, and I believe their names should be remembered with the deepest respect. My thoughts are with the families and everyone at the Islamic Center of San Diego as they navigate such profound loss. The community surely must feel both sorrow for the loss and gratitude for the lives that were saved thanks to these brave souls.
