I’ve been reflecting a lot on the incredibly selfless actions of Amin Abdullah during that awful day at the Islamic Center of San Diego. It’s incredibly moving to hear how he used his radio to warn the teachers and lock the school doors. As a parent, knowing that someone like Amin was there to protect those children just fills me with gratitude for his bravery. His ability to stay composed under such dire circumstances, and to think of the safety of others first, is truly the mark of a hero. I can’t imagine the pain his family is going through, but I hope they know how immensely appreciated his sacrifice is by so many. It’s hard to fathom the mindset of those two teens, influenced by such hateful ideologies. The way society can address and counteract this kind of radicalization is something we need to discuss more. Amin, Mansour, and Nadir's actions remind us of the good that still exists amidst such darkness.
