I was so saddened to hear about the tragedy involving Barbara and Kaleb Deer. Beyond the immediate heartbreak for their family, it seems this incident has left the entire North Lawndale community grappling with questions about whether more could have been done to prevent such an outcome. I've noticed a lot of discussions around mental health services, particularly how they reach young adults facing critical challenges. Given the Deer family's advocacy for mental health, I can't help but wonder if Kaleb was struggling more than anyone realized. It's just so tragic that a family who was committed to helping others might have been silently facing such profound issues themselves. Let's hope that the renewed focus on mental health services might pave the way for helping others in similar situations. My heart goes out to everyone affected.
