Has anyone else been thinking about the role of the criminal justice system in these kinds of events? I’ve been following the case of Akwane Stewart and his brother Xavier, and I can’t help but feel heartache for their family, especially knowing this may have been preventable. The fact that Eddie Duncan was let out on bail just hours before committing these acts... It just doesn’t sit right with me. I understand that the courts need to balance the rights of the accused with public safety, but when there are clear indications of risk, shouldn’t more caution be exercised? I think of Akwane and Xavier’s grandmother and the little ones who were there when it all happened. How terrifying that must have been for them. I hope they’re surrounded by support right now. It’s difficult not to feel frustrated that the system didn’t do more to protect this family. What are your thoughts on the bail system and how it might be improved to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future?
