Lyman, Utah will never feel the same after Margaret Oldroyd's tragic murder. As a longtime resident of the community, Margaret was more than just a neighbor; she was a friend to everyone who knew her. It's devastating to think how her keen love for gardening and cheerful chats in the grocery store were abruptly taken away from us all due to such a random and senseless act. One thing that's been haunting me is how Ivan Miller came to choose this path. It seems he stumbled into this situation after hitting an elk—something any one of us living in more rural areas could imagine happening. From there, instead of seeking help, he chose a series of unthinkable actions. What drives a person to such extremes? Were there some signs, somehow missed, of him being in such a desperate state? As we try to process and make sense of this tragedy, my heart goes out to Margaret's family and friends. Her absence is felt deeply within the community, and it's so important to rally around those affected, offering whatever support we can. It's a reminder of how precarious life can be and the importance of watching out for each other, particularly in small, tight-knit communities.
