I can’t stop thinking about the impact this tragedy has had on Sophia’s friends, especially those who were in her class. I read that she was someone who always reached out to the new kids during recess, making them feel welcome. It’s so hard to imagine how her classmates must be feeling right now. A counselor at Sophia’s school mentioned they were providing extra support to help everyone cope, which I think is essential. I can only hope the school community can find comfort in each other during this unimaginably difficult time. It really makes me think about how crucial it is to address the issue of unsecured firearms and the unforeseen risks they pose, especially to children. Stay strong, Mishawaka. Sophia and her spirit of kindness will not be forgotten.
