Michael Smith was 22 when he was shot on March 8, 2013, in Buffalo’s Bailey-East Delavan neighborhood. Driving a Dodge Durango, he was struck by a single bullet and, despite his injury, managed to drive a couple of blocks before his vehicle crashed into another car at Newburgh and East Delavan avenues. He was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to his thigh, taken to Erie County Medical Center, and died later that night.

The shooting was one of three violent incidents within a 10-block radius that Friday; four people were shot in the neighborhood that night. The circumstances of Michael Smith’s shooting remained under active police investigation, and no information about suspects or arrests has been provided in the years since.
