I'm deeply saddened by the loss of Hakeem Benjamin and my thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. One aspect of this case that really sticks with me is the location of the shooting—right outside a deli in broad daylight. It’s such a public space, and the brazenness of the act is chilling. It makes me wonder about the potential witnesses who might have been around at the time. Shops, street vendors, people simply walking by—it must have been terrifying for them. It's a reminder of how random violence can impact not just the victim but an entire community. Many people in areas with rising crime rates often feel trapped between wanting to help and fearing for their own safety. I hope that, with support and protection, more people will feel empowered to come forward. It’s a critical piece of resolving these cases and could help prevent further tragedies.
