The more I read about the incident at the Spartanburg vape shop, the more my heart goes out to the family and friends of Thomas Raheem. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain they’re going through right now. Something that really stuck out to me was how public this entire situation was. With everything being caught on the store's security cameras, I just wonder about the impact that must have on those who had to witness it, even after the fact. It's one thing to hear about a tragedy, but to actually see it unfold on video would be extremely distressing. Local residents must be reeling from a disturbing sense of vulnerability, thinking how this could have happened to anyone stepping into that shop at that time. I also can't shake off thinking about the young age of the accused. Javvon Leg is only 18, and someone else involved is just 16. How does it come to this point where such young people are committing these terrible acts? It adds another layer of tragedy, knowing so many lives are affected, and there’s a whole community now questioning safety and what the future holds. Sending thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by this senseless act, and hoping the community finds a way to come together to address the rising violence.
