I've been following the case of Bobby A. Johnson, and something that's been on my mind is the role that convenience stores like Circle K play in community safety. I mean, these places are supposed to be pit stops for snacks and fuel, not scenes of violent crime. It's hard to imagine that Bobby, with his love for music and design, had his life end so tragically at a spot that's meant to be mundane and safe. It also makes me think of his kids and how they have to navigate life after losing their dad in such a public and senseless way. These places are supposed to be part of the community, a neutral ground, yet situations like this shatter that illusion. I hope the Circle K and other businesses in the area will step up their security, maybe with more surveillance or better lighting, so this kind of terrible event doesn't become a pattern. My heart is with Bobby's family and friends during this unimaginably hard time.
